In the Name of Confucius is the first documentary exposing the Chinese government’s multi-billion dollar Confucius Institute program and its global controversies, i.e. loss of academic integrity, human-rights violations, and national security infringements.
The film visits universities and schools across Canada, and follows the TDSB trustees as they make their landmark decision whether to invite the Confucius Institute (CI) into Toronto classrooms, amidst heavy protests. In the Name of Confucius also features exclusive access to the only known defector Sonia Zhao, a former CI teacher who catalyzed the first ever closure of a CI in North America at McMaster University. Re-enactments star reigning Miss World Canada.
