“Just a Ploughboy” is about how the land and its people shape the writer who in turn shapes us. Geroge Ryga’s “The Ecstasy of Rita Joe” is about missing and murdered Indigenous women. Written 50 years ago, the play is still in print, still produced internationally. Ryga’s boyhood friend, Alex Krawec and the first Indigenous actor to play Rita Joe, Margo Kane, discuss the impact of George Ryga’s writing in the context of Canada today.
