2020 Spring DVD Tours

For 73 years the Yorkton Film Festival has been providing Canadian short films, year-round, to audiences.  The YFF is contributing to assisting families as we go through Covid 19, by offering free at home delivery (within Yorkton) or mail to other locations, of great short films. We have a selection of films in several tours to choose from.

Best of Fest Tour

To Make A Farm – 57 minutes

TO MAKE A FARM is an inspirational documentary that examines the lives of five young people who have decided to become farmers. Following them through their first seasons on the land, the joys and disappointments of bringing life from the earth become a quiet manifesto for social change.

Jingle Bell Rocks! – 43 minutes

With an eclectic cast of characters & songs, JINGLE BELL ROCKS! Is an exclusive backstage pass into the underground universe of original, alternative Christmas music. Equal parts social history, pop culture pilgrimage and revealing character study.

Vanishing Points – 6 minutes

Like two molecules unknowingly affecting one another in space and briefly crossing paths, conceptual hip-hop dancers collide and share fleeting moments of intimate synchronicity on the streets of Montreal. Sucked into a choreographic time warp, viewers slowly realize things are not as they seem.

Fix and Release – 15 minutes

Fix and Release is an intimate look at fresh water turtles who have suffered physical trauma and the doctor, Sue Carstairs, who is developing unique protocols to save them.

Skin for Skin – 15 minutes

Skin for Skin is a dark allegory of greed and spiritual reckoning set during the early days of the fur trade. In 1823, the Governor of the largest fur-trading company in the world travels across his Dominion, extracting ever-greater riches from the winter bounty of animal furs. In his brutal world of profit and loss, animals are slaughtered to the brink of extinction until the balance of power shifts, and the forces of nature exact their own terrible price.

Fast Horse – 13 minutes

FAST HORSE follows the return of the Blackfoot bareback horseracing tradition in a new form: the Indian Relay. Siksika horseman Allison RedCrow struggles to build a team with second-hand races and a new jockey, Cody BigTobacco, to take on the best riders in the Blackfoot Confederacy at the Calgary Stampede.

Animation Tour

Foxed! – 4 minutes

Emily has been Foxed! in this 3D stop-motion tale of fighting for what you believe in. Filmed in stunning 3D, Director James Stewart crafts a cautionary tale about child labor, growing up in an environment of parental control, and how children are often misunderstood in the eyes of their parents.

Gloria Victoria – 7 minutes

Recycling elements of surrealism and cubism, this animated short by Theodore Ushev focuses on the relationship between art and war. Propelled by the exalting “invasion” theme from Shostakovich’s Leningrad Symphony (No. 7), the film presents imagery of combat fronts and massacres, leading us from Dresden to Guernica, from the Spanish Civil War to Star.

Me and My Moulton – 14 minutes

In this witty animated short set in 1960s Norway, a seven-year-old girl asks her hopelessly out-of-touch parents for a bicycle, but the unconventional ways of these modernist architects soon prove to be a source of quiet embarrassment and anxiety.

Carface – 5 minutes

A scathing satire of the power of Big Oil, Carface is musical comedy on a grand scale, with a choir of cars singing and dancing while industrial civilization imperils the planet. A spectacular, fast-moving caricature by filmmaker and cartoonist Claude Cloutier.

Oscar – 12 minutes

Oscar is a touching portrait of virtuoso pianist Oscar Peterson at the twilight of an exceptional career, as he wistfully meditates on the price of fame and the impacts of the artist’s life on family life. From the young prodigy’s beginnings in Little Burgundy to his triumphs on the international scene, this animated documentary by Marie-Josée Saint-Pierre explores the profound solitude of an artist constantly on tour.

Hedgehog’s Home – 10 minutes

In a lush and lively forest lives a hedgehog. He is respected and envied by the other animals. However, Hedgehog’s unwavering devotion to his home annoys a quartet of insatiable beasts. Together, they march off towards Hedgehog’s home and spark a tense and prickly standoff

Bone Mother – 9 minutes

The ancient witch Baba Yaga and her living house of bones are visited by a prince with youthful desires. His quest for immortal beauty creates a new legend.

Things You Need to Know II – Chemistry – 23 minutes

The second season of the highly entertaining animated series hosted by James May, that provides essential facts about populist subjects like chemistry, evolution, and the brain.

Le rideau – 13 minutes

Pierre, an eight years old young boy, spends most of his summer vacation behind the curtain of the dining room’s window, cloistered by his anxious mother. One day Pierre decides to break the ban.

The Amautalik – 7 minutes

A neglected orphan and a kind little girl encounter one of the most dangerous land spirits from Inuit folktales: the Amautalik. This huge creature wanders the tundra, looking for children or lone travellers. When the Amautalik finds the two children far away from the safety of their camp, she is certain of her prize. However, the little orphan’s quick-thinking response saves the two children.

Scout & The Gumboot Kids – 5 minutes

Scout & The Gumboot Kids is a hybrid animated and live-action television series that inspires pre-school aged children and their families to mindfully explore nature. The series airs weekday mornings on Kids’ CBC.

Scout & The Gumboot Kids: Season 2 – 5 minutes

Scout the mouse invites children to experience the natural world through mindfulness. With three clues in hand, the Gumboot Kids, a diverse group of real-life Canadian children, set out to solve nature mysteries and discover the beauty of being outside.

Nadine – 5 minutes

From out of nowhere, the most beautiful girl in the world sits at the table across from me at the library. Is this a stroke of good luck or bad? Her smile paralyzes me. I can’t talk to her because I don’t know her, but I can’t get to know her because I won’t talk to her…

The Most Magnificent Thing – 22 minutes

The Most Magnificent Thing is an inspirational story about a little girl with a creative spirit, determined to make great things. Joined by her best friend, her pet dog, the two happily explore the world, doing absolutely everything together.
