The YFF mentorship program of the Yorkton Film Festival, supported by RBC, connects emerging filmmakers with established industry professionals who provide expert-level advice and networking opportunities to help emerging talent in Canada’s film industry.
The 2024 recipients were selected by a jury of film industry professionals from applicants from across the country. Selected were Tyson Liske of Saskatchewan, Alison Campeau of Manitoba, and Jeff Evans-Todd of British Columbia. Information on our mentees can be found below.
“A Canada-wide call for applications went out in February, and we received many very strong applications from filmmakers who were interested in taking part in this year’s program,” YFF Executive Director Randy Goulden said. “We are excited to again deliver this program and thank RBC Foundation for their commitment to helping us foster the next great generation of Canadian film talent.”
“RBC welcomes this year’s program participants and we are excited to help them power their ideas forward,” said Jon Barth, RBC Regional Vice President, Southern Saskatchewan. “The experience and advice from their mentors will be invaluable as they build their platforms to share perspectives, provoke thought, foster empathy, cultivate conversations, and spark action within our communities.”
The arts play an important role in society, and the YFF Mentorship Program is an investment in the creative sector to support a strong future for filmmakers and to foster diverse contributions to Canadian film and media landscape.
Mentorship recipients will attend the Yorkton festival in May, providing them with workshop and networking opportunities, and will participate in monthly consultation with their mentor to discuss their creative projects.
"I was so joyful and thankful to learn I was selected into the Yorkton Film Festivals Mentorship Program as this is a fantastic opportunity. I am excited and looking forward to attending the festival to network, connect, and also learn from highly experienced film professionals in the seminars the festival has lined up, as well as support others in the industry who will be recognized for their work.
"I definitely want to encourage inner-city youth and young folks out there who have a dream and who are facing the things I faced in the inner-city streets of north end Winnipeg. Anything is possible, no matter where you come from. You can do it and there are people out there who want to help and who are genuinely nice, caring and helpful." --Alison
Alison Campeau was a little girl who re-enacted movies in her living room who had a dream of one day being part of the film industry. She is now living her dream as a filmmaker who is based in Winnipeg. Alison has attended the National Screen Institute: New Voice Program, Just Tv Multimedia Program, Aboriginal Media Art Initiative and the Prairie View School of Photography.
Pursuing her career in the film & television industry she has worked on films that have aired both on television and digital outlets such as APTN, Shaw Tv, the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs and the City of Winnipeg's Oshki Annishinabe Nigaaniwak youth community website.
She has gained experience both in front of the camera and behind the camera. Her style in her films have come to be known to educate and spread awareness in a fun creative way combined with her many different technical savvy skills such as videography, photography, graphic design and video editing.
She has been honored by the City of Winnipeg for the Youth Role Model Award for Performing Arts in 2014 as well as the Impact Award in 2022 from the Love & Care Network. A quote that has stuck with her throughout her years of pursuing her career in the film industry has been a quote by Dwight Lyman Moody: Faith makes all things possible, love makes them easy.
“I am so honoured to have been selected as a 2024 Yorkton Film Festival mentee with much thanks to YFF and the RBC Foundation. The opportunity to be mentored by Brandice Vivier with Buffalo Gal Pictures is invaluable to me and I am ecstatic to receive guidance and advice to help me as an emerging producer here in Canada.” -- Tyson
Tyson Liske is an emerging producer from Regina, Saskatchewan. With a penchant for connecting with people and building community, he is genuinely curious about what makes people tick and the stories that grab us.
From the early days of writing scripts with friends, to attending film festivals and being a lover of the screen, Tyson is keen on bringing productions to light that will appeal to many and leave audiences stirred.
"I was elated to discover I'd been selected for the program! I am so grateful to the festival and my mentor for providing this opportunity, and couldn't be more ready and excited to learn lots and step up my game. Looking forward to the festival!" --Jeff
Hailing from the prairies, Jeff has been a professional actor in Vancouver since 2012, acting in shows like Bates Motel, Turner & Hooch, Alaska Daily, When We Rise and Supernatural.
He has also given voice to cartoon characters in video games and animated series like LEGO's Legends of Chima and Tobot.
But in early 2020, Jeff's itch to move behind the camera spurred him into writing, directing and producing short films, and starting a production company.
So far he has written and directed three shorts called Forever Friend, Ghosts of Yesterday (Yorkton winner in 2022), and Through the Mirror. Through the relationships he has forged with incredible collaborators, he has begun producing shorts and features for others, like the debut short film from Dylan Scott Hryciuk entitled Our Last Day As Kids, in addition to the work he is doing on his own self-written projects.
